Trade Updates as the Deadline Approaches

With the NFL trade deadline approaching (Tuesday, October 29th, 4:00 PM EST), several big names have already been dealt, and several more are expected to be moved. Here’s a quick breakdown of the moves that have already happened:

RamsCB Marcus Peters →RavensLB Kenny Young, 5th-round pick

Peters was once again on the move, this time to Baltimore, who have one of best cornerbacks room in the league, joining Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Carr, and Jimmy Smith. He had a pick-six in his first game and will fit in nicely in a surprisingly struggling Ravens defense. Young was looking like a nice player since coming in the league last year as a fourth-round pick, but was passed on the depth chart by Josh Bynes, L.J. Fort, and Chris Board. As for the Rams, they got a potential starter in Young alongside Cory Littleton and Bryce Hager, but sacrificed another starter in the secondary after losing Aqib Talib and John Johnson to injuries.

BrownsG/C Austin Corbett →Rams5th-round pick

After coming into the league last year as the first pick of the second round, Corbett has not been able to crack the Browns starting lineup. Following the trade of Kevin Zeitler in the offseason, Corbett was primed to take over the starting right guard spot. However, he failed to win the starting job over veteran Eric Kush, and was deemed expendable and sent to a Rams team that lost starting left guard Joseph Noteboom for the season.

Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey →Rams Two 1st-round picks, 4th-round pick

In what is viewed as one of the biggest trades of 2019, the All-Pro has voiced his displeasure with the Jaguars organization, showing up to training camp in a Brinks truck, and fighting with coaches and teammates on the sideline. Now he’s a member of the Rams, who have under-performed this year, but are viewed as playoff contenders. After the Rams traded Marcus Peters, then lost Aqib Talib to injury, some questioned their front office, but little did everyone know they were plotting one of the biggest trades of the year. The Rams seem to hate having high draft picks, having not made a first-round selection since 2016.

RaidersCB Gareon Conley → Texans 3rd-round pick

A first-round pick in 2017, Conley dealt with injuries early, but was finally putting it together for the Raiders this season. The Raiders already had a bad secondary, and they’ve taken a step back in their rebuild. The Texans secondary isn’t great either, and they’ve had some injuries at the position, and Conley will be thrust into the starting lineup, with his first game coming against…the Raiders.

Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu → Patriots 2nd-round pick

The Patriots receiving core has taken a hit after the past several months after injuries and releases of Josh Gordon, Antonio Brown, and N’Keal Harry. He’ll slot in as the second or third receiver. The Falcons are going nowhere in this disappointing season, and may have gotten the better end of the deal, dumping Sanu’s contract and getting a second-round pick, which is a bit much for a 30 year-old receiver with two years left on his deal.

Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders, 5th-round pick → 49ers 3rd- & 4th-round picks

The Broncos are one of the most boring teams in the league with the most boring quarterback. They’re just an organization they thinks they’re contenders, but should really be in a rebuild. The took a step in the right direction in a rebuild by dealing Sanders to an undefeated 49ers team. The Niners don’t have a true No. 1 receiver not named George Kittle, and Sanders will fit in quite nicely in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

Lions SS Quandre Diggs, 7th-round pick → Seahawks 5th-round pick

A surprising trade for a Lions team that’s competing for a playoff spot. Diggs was their starting strong safety, and this move stunned the Lions players, including Darius Slay, who could be on the move himself. Seahawks have a young and talented secondary, and they get a good player to either put in the starting lineup or solidify depth.

Patriots DE Michael Bennett → Cowboys7th-round pick

The writing was on the wall for Bennett after being suspended by the team last week. He wasn’t happy with his role as a rotational player only playing 20 snaps a game, now he’s back in the NFC in a very talented Dallas defensive line.
