The Day Before the Deadline – Updated Trades and Who Could Be On The Move Tuesday

The NFL trade deadline has become one of the most chaotic times in the NFL calendar, and the volume of trades has increased every year. There were some huge trades today, and several more names could be on the move. Let’s first take a look at the moves from today.

DolphinsRB Kenyan Drake → Cardinals Conditional 2020 6th-round pick

Everyone knew Drake was one the move when he wasn’t traveling with the team to Pittsburgh for MNF. The teams I heard that were in on Drake were the Lions and Titans. Scrolling through all the teams and who would make sense, you may not believe me but I did think the Cardinals would make sense. David Johnson is banged up and Chase Edmonds is expected to miss several games. The Dolphins are one of the worst teams of all time, and are trading everyone. Drake hadn’t been having a good year anyway, having not scored a touchdown and only had a season-high of 44 rushing yards in a game.

JetsDL Leonard Williams → Giants 2020 3rd-round pick, 2021 5th-round pick

Williams has been a productive player, but has never lived up to being a top 10 pick. Thought he would be traded to a contender, the Packers or Chiefs I thought made sense, so I don’t really see the logic in the Giants trading for a guy in a contract year. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Giants are sellers (Janoris Jenkins, Nate Solder, Alec Ogletree) to get those contracts off the books and then re-sign Williams, then the move would make sense. For now, this is a questionable move for the Giants, who were really the only ones in on Williams.

BrownsDE Genard Avery → Eagles2021 4th-round pick

Avery was a nice player for the Browns last year after coming in as a fifth-round pick, but slipped down the depth chart this season, only playing two games. The Browns got a decent return from the Eagles, who have never been shy when it comes to the trade market. They’re one of the best when it comes to team building and solidifying depth and rotation, especially on the defensive line. Solid trade for both parties.

Here are some guys I could see on the move and their potential landing spots:

Falcons DE Vic Beasley – Texans

Redskins T Trent Williams – Browns

Dolphins S Reshad Jones – Cowboys

Giants CB Janoris Jenkins – Chiefs

Lions CB Darius Slay – Eagles

JetsWR Robby Anderson – Raiders, Seahawks

Chargers RB Melvin Gordon – Lions, Titans

BuccaneersTE O.J. Howard – Patriots
