Jets trade star safety Jamal Adams to the Seahawks

Well there you have it. Apparently bitching and moaning can get you what you want. Adams came out this week calling out the incompetence of head coach Adam Gase (deserving) and general manager Joe Douglas (he just started cut him some slack Jamal).

Adams has long wanted out of New York, especially after the Gase hiring. I am one who hates Gase and thinks he’s a terrible coach who has no respect from his players because he sucks. He got fired by the Dolphins and got another head coaching job. Usually when a guy gets fired, he takes a lesser position, but the fact he got another head coaching job is beyond me.

It’s proven that guys who are no longer under the crazed watchful eyes of Gase go on to be much better elsewhere (Ryan Tannehill, Kenyan Drake, DeVante Parker). Adams is probably the best safety in the league only three years into his career, and now that he’s left Gase, dear god. And what a perfect spot to land in Seattle under Pete Carroll, one of the greatest coaches of all time.

For the Seahawks, they got the best safety in the game. This team has been in a bit of a mini rebuild the past few years. I actually wouldn’t even call it a rebuild, more like a retool with some turnover after the Legion of Boom era ended. They got some nice foundational players in that secondary with Shaquill Griffin, Tre Flowers, and Marquise Blair, and they just added a new leader to a young, evolving defense.

The Seahawks are no strangers to trading draft picks. They really hate first-round picks, always trading out and for star players. They did it mid-season last year for Quandre Diggs, who’ll likely start alongside Adams with the young stud Blair as a third safety. They gave up two first rounders for Adams, so now the yearly anticipation of if the Seahawks will trade out will hit pause for two years.

For the Jets, they lost their best player and a team captain. They lost a foundational player to build around and gave Jets fans hope for the future. Now, the 2020 Jets are a joke and the future looks bleak. But hey, they got a real good haul in return. Two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a player in Bradley McDougald who has been an unsung hero in that Seattle secondary, so they actually got a solid player in return. He’s obviously not as talented or as young as Adams, but’s that’s not a bad player to get along with the draft haul they got. The Jets may not be set for the future player-wise, but they’re set for the future draft-wise. They’ve officially punted on 2020 with what looked like a promising year, but no more. Maybe they felt they weren’t quite ready and Sam Darnold’s development isn’t quite where they’d like it to be, and they want to delay their resurgence. I don’t know, and I don’t even think the Jets front office knows.
