The hype of free agency has come and gone and now it’s time to look at what teams have gained and lost since March 15th and where they stand as they prepare for the upcoming draft. Let’s talk about the Green Bay Packers.
Green Bay Packers
Key acquisitions: LS Matthew Orzech
Re-signed: CB Keisean Nixon, S Rudy Ford, OLB Justin Hollins, LB Eric Wilson
Departures: WR Allen Lazard (Jets), DE Jarran Reed (Seahawks), TE Robert Tonyan (Bears), DE Dean Lowry (Vikings)
Remaining free agents: S Adrian Amos, WR Randall Cobb, K Mason Crosby, TE Marcedes Lewis
Analysis: Honestly, not gonna talk much about the Packers because they really didn’t do anything. They signed a long snapper, that was their only new acquisition. They re-signed a bunch of backups, and let four starters walk with a couple key guys still free agents.
Losing Lazard and Tonyan doesn’t leave a ton of offensive weapons outside of Christian Watson and Aaron Jones. Reed and Lowry were key defensive line starters that are gone, so there’s some holes to fill. Starting safety Adrian Amos is a free agent, but they have a lot of young guys in the secondary, so we’ll see.
Conclusion: We all know that Aaron Rodgers will be with the Jets in 2023, it’s just a matter of when. This is Jordan Love’s team now. The whole roster pretty much needs work, so I wouldn’t expect much from this team this season. Packers fans will just hope for development from Love and prove that he’s the guy. No longer have to worry about Rodgers’ ego, just Love.
