Analysis: Without a first-round pick from the Laremy Tunsil trade, and their own second from the Brandin Cooks trade, and getting one back in the DeAndre Hopkins trade, the Texans selected Ross Blacklock. Ranked a top 20 player, Blacklock barely cracked the starting roster his first two seasons, playing 25% and 47% of snaps, then was traded to the Vikings for a seventh-round pick before the 2022 season and only played 19% of snaps. He was cut before the 2023 season and spent time on the practice squads of the rest of the AFC South.
The stud of the class and this upcoming free agency is Jonathan Greenard. After being in a reserve role as a rookie, Greenard started 12 games in ’21 and recorded eight sacks. Injuries limited his ’22 season, but had a 12.5 sack season in 2023.
Charlie Heck has primarily been a backup in four seasons, but always managed to get plenty of starts due to injuries with 21 starts at right tackle.
John Reid played in 13 games as a rookie, but was traded to the Seahawks before the 2021 season. He’s since spent time with the Falcons, Titans, and Vikings. Isaiah Coulter played in one game as a rookie, then cut in 2021 and has spent time with the Bears and Bills.
