2024 Offseason Analysis – NFC East

Dallas Cowboys

Key acquisitions: LB Eric Kendricks, RB Royce Freeman

Re-signed: CB Jourdan Lewis, CB C.J. Goodwin, RB Rico Dowdle, G Chuma Edoga

Departures: T Tyron Smith (Jets), LB Leighton Vander Esch (retired), WR Michael Gallup, RB Tony Pollard (Titans), C Tyler Biadasz (Commanders), DE Dorance Armstrong (Commanders), DE Dante Fowler (Commanders), DT Neville Gallimore (Dolphins), DT Johnathan Hankins (Seahawks)

Remaining free agents: CB Stephon Gilmore, S Jayron Kearse

Analysis: Eric Kendricks and Royce Freeman are your 2024 Cowboys free agency. That’s it. Jerry Jones said they were going all-in. All-in obviously means Kendricks and Freeman, I don’t know how that got misconstrued.

They lost two starting OL, including 13-year starter Tyron Smith, four defensive linemen, and your starting running back.

Conclusion: This might be the worst roster in the NFL. They still got Dak, Lamb, Diggs, Lawrence and Zack Martin, but man this is a rough roster on paper. They need help everywhere, and the 24th pick should get them something, likely on the offensive line or edge rush.

New York Giants

Key acquisitions: DE Brian Burns, G Jon Runyan, RB Devin Singletary, DT Jordan Phillips, T Jermaine Eluemunor, QB Drew Lock, WR Isaiah McKenzie, TE Jack Stoll, G Aaron Stinnie, T Matt Nelson, LB Matthew Adams

Re-signed: LB Carter Coughlin, WR Gunner Olszewski, CB Darnay Holmes, LB Isaiah Simmons

Departures: RB Saquon Barkley (Eagles), S Xavier McKinney (Packers), G Mark Glowinski, QB Tyrod Taylor (Jets), DT A’Shawn Robinson (Panthers), G Ben Bredeson (Buccaneers), T Matt Peart (Broncos), DE Jihad Ward (Vikings), WR Parris Campbell (Eagles)

Remaining free agents: CB Adoree’ Jackson, WR Sterling Shepard, G Shane Lemieux, T Tyre Phillips, G Justin Pugh, RB Matt Breida, LB Jarrad Davis

Analysis: It’s tough to evaluate this Giants offseason. They lost Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney, two of their young stars, but made some decent moves. Their biggest being the trade with the Panthers for Pro Bowl pass rusher Brian Burns and signing him to a gigantic contract. Him and Kayvon Thibodeaux is a deadly duo, but there’s still a ton of holes. They kind of added one average guy at each position, not really focusing on one aspect, proving they need help everywhere.

Jon Runyan, Jermaine Eluemunor, Aaron Stinnie, and Matt Nelson to replace Mark Glowinski, Ben Bredeson, Matt Peart, and Justin Pugh as starters and backups. Devin Singletary for Barkley, Drew Lock for Tyrod Taylor, it’s just gonna one in, more than one out. Pretty underwhelming for what looked like a busy offseason.

Conclusion: Quarterback? Wide receiver? Tackle? Edge rusher? Cornerback? Who knows. This team has far too many question marks to make a decision. A lot of people are mocking them to trade up into the top five to take a QB, but who the hell knows.

Philadelphia Eagles

Key acquisitions: RB Saquon Barkley, DE Bryce Huff, S C.J. Gardner-Johnson, LB Devin White, LB Zack Baun, QB Kenny Pickett, C Matt Hennessy, WR DeVante Parker, LB Oren Burks, DT P.J. Mustipher, WR Parris Campbell, CB Tyler Hall, TE C.J. Uzomah

Re-signed: DE Brandon Graham, TE Albert Okwuegbunam

Departures: C Jason Kelce (retired), DT Fletcher Cox (retired), DE Haason Reddick (Jets), RB D’Andre Swift (Bears), S Kevin Byard (Bears), LB Nicholas Morrow (Bills), QB Marcus Mariota (Commanders), G Sua Opeta (Buccaneers), T Jack Driscoll (Dolphins), WR Quez Watkins (Steelers), WR Olamide Zaccheaus (Commanders)

Remaining free agents: CB Bradley Roby, LB Zach Cunningham, LB Shaq Leonard, RB Boston Scott, S Justin Evans, WR Julio Jones

Analysis: A HUGE offseason for the Eagles. Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox both retired, and they gave out some of the biggest contracts. Former division rival Saquon Barkley joins the squad to replace D’Andre Swift, and beefs up an already impressive run game. They also added receiver depth with DeVante Parker and Parris Campbell to pair with A.J. Brown and the recently-paid DeVonta Smith.

On defensive, Bryce Huff was signed from the Jets after a couple breakout years, replacing Haason Reddick, who was traded to the aforementioned Jets. C.J. Gardner-Johnson is back after a year in Detroit, alongside linebackers Devin White, Zack Baun, and Oren Burks. The LB play last year was rough, with last year’s three starters on the street or signed elsewhere.

Conclusion: Despite a big money offseason, there’s still plenty of work left. They were prepared for Kelce’s retirement with the drafting of Cam Jurgens a couple years ago, but they could still use help on the interior. I see their top needs at interior line and in the secondary.

Washington Commanders

Key acquisitions: LB Bobby Wagner, RB Austin Ekeler, LB Frankie Luvu, C Tyler Biadasz, DE Dorance Armstrong, DE Dante Fowler, G Nick Allegretti, S Jeremy Chinn, DE Clelin Ferrell, QB Marcus Mariota, TE Zach Ertz, CB Michael Davis, K Brandon McManus, LS Tyler Ott, CB Noah Igbinoghene, CB James Pierre, C Michael Deiter, WR Olamide Zaccheaus

Re-signed: DE Efe Obada, S Jeremy Reaves, WR Jamison Crowder, T Cornelius Lucas

Departures: QB Sam Howell (Seahawks), S Kamren Curl (Rams), T Charles Leno Jr., CB Kendall Fuller (Dolphins), RB Antonio Gibson (Patriots), TE Logan Thomas, LB Cody Barton (Broncos), WR Curtis Samuel (Bills), C Nick Gates, LB Khaleke Hudson (Saints), QB Jacoby Brissett (Patriots), G Saahdiq Charles (Titans), K Joey Slye (Jaguars), DE Casey Toohill (Bills)

Remaining free agents: C Tyler Larsen

Analysis: A completely new regime in Washington with general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn coming on board for the second year under new owner Josh Harris. They had a very busy offseason, bringing in starters throughout the whole roster.

With Dan Quinn coming from Dallas, he brought a lot of familiar faces in Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler, and Tyler Biadasz. Biadasz is expected to be the starting center following the release of Nick Gates, and will compete with fellow FA signee Michael Deiter. They also brought in former Chiefs backup Nick Allegretti to be a starter. Armstrong and Fowler join with Clelin Ferrell to lead a pass rush that traded away stars Chase Young and Montez Sweat last season in a rebuilding effort.

At linebacker they brought in tackling machines Bobby Wagner, who is ageless in his upcoming age-34 season and breakout star Frankie Luvu, teaming up with Jamin Davis to replace Cody Barton. They also brought in safety Jeremy Chinn from the Panthers to replace Kamren Curl, who had an awesome start to his career but fell off his last couple seasons. They also added depth with former Chargers starting CB Michael Davis and backups Noah Igbinoghene and James Pierre to help replace Kendall Fuller.

On offense they made a big move in trading Sam Howell to the Seahawks. Small compensation, but significant as their draft plans are clear now. They also brought in former Chargers star running back Austin Ekeler to pair with Brian Robinson, replacing Antonio Gibson. Unsure how that timeshare will work out but it’ll be fun.

Conclusion: They’re taking a quarterback at #2. It’s Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye, likely Daniels, but you never know. I thought they had something with Sam Howell, but new regime thinks otherwise. I think they also need to add at tackle as Cornelius Lucas isn’t the long term, or even short term solution. They didn’t add anything at pass catcher outside of replacing Logan Thomas with Zach Ertz, so with a rich wide receiver class that should be a high priority.
