1. Arizona Cardinals – QB Kyler Murray
The Cardinals get their new franchise quarterback with new head coach Kliff Kingsbury. What happens to Josh Rosen is yet to be seen.
2. San Francisco 49ers – DE Nick Bosa
The obvious pick. Best pass rusher in the draft and will join a defensive line littered with first rounders.
3. New York Jets – DT Quinnen Williams
Arguably the best player in the draft, the Jets get a disruptor on the interior alongside Leonard Williams.
4. Oakland Raiders – DE Clelin Ferrell
The first shocker of the night, Mike Mayock gets a high character guy who was projected to go later in the round.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – LB Devin White
Following the loss of Kwon Alexander, the Bucs get a new face in the middle of the defense to pair with Lavonte David. Great pick.
6. New York Giants – QB Daniel Jones
The Giants took the heir to Eli Manning at number 6, and it’s a poor man’s Eli Manning. I believe Jones would have been there at No. 17, if not beyond, but if you believe in a player, why risk it.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars – DE Josh Allen
The Jaguars get a steal with Josh Allen, and will be a great compliment to Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue, with the latter being in a contract year.
8. Detroit Lions – TE T.J. Hockenson
The best tight end in the draft, Hockenson has the talent to be one of the best tight ends ever. He should thrive in Detroit with Matthew Stafford, and hope this isn’t another Eric Ebron bust.
9. Buffalo Bills – DT Ed Oliver
The Bills thought they’d have to trade up for Oliver, but they get their guy while staying pat. After losing Kyle Williams to retirement, and Marcell Dareus in 2017, the Bills fill a massive void alongside Harrison Phillips.
10. Pittsburgh Steelers (acquired from Broncos)- LB Devin Bush
Fearing the Bengals were going to take him (they probably would have), the Steelers trade up and finally get their replacement for Ryan Shazier. A great pick for a struggling defense.
11. Cincinnati Bengals – OT Jonah Williams
The Bengals struck out on drafting Devin Bush, and got one of the best offensive lineman. They listed him as a tackle, but Williams can also play guard. The Bengals still have Cordy Glenn at left tackle and just gave Bobby Hart big money as their right tackle, who is one of the worst tackles in football. Williams could supplant Hart as the starter, or kick inside at guard.
12. Green Bay Packers – DE Rashan Gary
Despite a small tear in his labrum, the Packers drafted a guy based on potential rather than production. An athletic freak who can play on the edge and kick inside, Gary joins a revamped defensive line in Green Bay.
13. Miami Dolphins – DT Christian Wilkins
The Dolphins pass on a quarterback and take a dominant defensive lineman. Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh are no longer there, and the Dolphins had a huge void on the defensive line. Wilkins is a great pick for Miami.
14. Atlanta Falcons – G Chris Lindstrom
Not a fan of this pick. Teams say don’t draft for need, but the Falcons should have done that. The have four starting-caliber guards on their roster after signing two to multi-year deals in free agency. They should have addressed the defense with defensive line or cornerback.
15. Washington Redskins – QB Dwayne Haskins
The Redskins thought they would need to move up to the top 10 to take their quarterback, but get their guy at number 15. He has a chance to start right away and compete against Case Keenum. The Daniel Jones vs. Dwayne Haskins debate will be the topic of the NFC East for the next decade.
16. Carolina Panthers – DE Brian Burns
The Panthers got this one right. Burns improved his draft stock at the Combine, and immediately fills a serious need for Carolina. Mario Addison and Bruce Irvin are both 31, and Burns is a great addition. Well done.
17. New York Giants (via Browns) – DT Dexter Lawrence
While this is a good pick, the Giants could’ve done something a bit flashier. Lawrence is a wall at 342 pounds and will anchor the interior defensive line alongside B.J. Hill and Dalvin Tomlinson.
18. Minnesota Vikings – C Garrett Bradbury
The Vikings desperately need help on the offensive line, and they got the best interior guy in this draft. Bradbury can play center or guard, but the belief is he’ll start at center and Pat Elflein will kick out to guard.
19. Tennessee Titans – DT Jeffery Simmons
Needing help on the defensive line, the Titans got a top 10 talent at number 19. He’ll likely redshirt his rookie year, but if all goes right, the Titans might have the best value pick in this year’s draft.
20. Denver Broncos (acquired from Steelers) – TE Noah Fant
After trading down with the Steelers, the Broncos got Flacco a new weapon. Noah Fant is a great athlete and immediately fills a need for the Broncos. Denver could’ve drafted a quarterback if they stayed at number 10, but it looks like they’d like to build around the veteran signal caller.
21. Green Bay Packers (acquired from Seahawks) – S Darnell Savage Jr.
Another surprise pick of the draft, the Packers traded up with the Seahawks to take the first safety in the draft, no not Jonathan Abram, but Darnell Savage. I thought they’d either go offensive tackle with Bryan Bulaga in a contract year or wide receiver to help Aaron Rodgers. The Packers have used a lot of Day 1 and 2 draft picks on the secondary in recent years, and they continued that trend yesterday. Not saying it’s a bad pick, but this is a guy who could have fallen into the second round and there were better players that fill bigger needs still on the board.
22. Philadelphia Eagles (acquired from Ravens)– OT Andre Dillard
The Eagles get their future left tackle with Andre Dillard as Jason Peters is 37 and will need to look into the future of that position. The Eagles traded up with the Ravens ahead of the Texans who were most likely going to draft Dillard, so nice move by the Eagles to get up and get their guy.
23. Houston Texans – OT Tytus Howard
The Eagles kind of threw a monkey wrench into the Texans plans of drafting Andre Dillard, if that was the plan, or the Texans actually got the guy they wanted all along with Tytus Howard. It was no question that the Texans were going offensive line, it was just of question of who, and the who, is Tytus Howard.
24. Oakland Raiders (via Bears) – RB Josh Jacobs
Marshawn Lynch is gone, and this one was a no brainer. The best running back in the draft, the Raiders got an improved running game for Derek Carr (maybe?) and with no one in front of him, it’s the Josh Jacobs show in Oakland.
25. Baltimore Ravens (acquired from Eagles)– WR Marquise Brown
Hollywood! Desperate for wide receivers, the Ravens got a speed demon for Lamar Jackson to grow with the young quarterback.
26. Washington Redskins (acquired from Colts) – DE Montez Sweat
The Redskins lost Preston Smith in free agency, and the Redskins got one of the best pass rushers at number 26. There were some questions about his heart condition, but that is all in the past now. Great move for the Redskins.
27. Oakland Raiders (via Cowboys) – S Jonathan Abram
The Raiders got a heat-seeking missile in Abram. Great pick for a rebuilding secondary with former Ram Lamarcus Joyner. This move doesn’t bode well for 2016 first-rounder Karl Joseph though, so keep an eye on that front.
28. Los Angeles Chargers – DT Jerry Tillery
The Chargers parted ways with veteran DT Corey Liuget, and improved their run defense with Tillery. At 6′-7″, this guy is built like Calais Campbell and DeForest Buckner and will plug up the middle of the defense with one of the league’s best pass rushing duos.
29. Seattle Seahawks (via Chiefs) – DE L.J. Collier
I wouldn’t call this a surprise pick, I just didn’t expect this player. The Seahawks really need a pass rush with Michael Bennett and now Frank Clark out the door. Surprised at first, but now I love the pick.
30. New York Giants (acquired from Saints via Packers ) – CB Deandre Baker
When the Giants traded back into the first round, I thought this would be for offensive tackle, like Jawaan Taylor, but they actually nailed it with this one. Baker is the first and only cornerback taken in the first round and will start alongside Janoris Jenkins.
31. Atlanta Falcons (acquired from Rams) – T Kaleb McGary
I was a bit surprised by this pick. When they traded back into the first round, I thought it’d be for a cornerback, but they get their new right tackle, presumably. This is actually a better pick than their first first round pick guard Chris Lindstrom as the Falcons have more of a need at tackle than guard. McGary will compete for the recently re-signed Ty Sambrailo.
32. New England Patriots – WR N’Keal Harry
The Patriots have never been known to take a skill position player in the first round. Well last year they got Sony Michel, so anything is possible. This is a great pick for the Patriots and the highlight reel on this guy is something else. A nice new toy for the GOAT.
